The unique NGC Retro Holder and special label have been made available due to popular demand and will only be offered for a limited time. Not since they were issued for a brief time in 1987 has NGC made a black core available for encapsulating coins.

“This holder is reminiscent of our original holder used in 1987, featuring a sleek black core,” said Mark Salzberg, NGC chairman. “We couldn’t be more excited to make the NGC Retro Holder available to collectors and dealers.”

The new holders will be made available October 1 through December 31, 2012, to NGC Collectors Society members for the following coins only: Silver Eagles, Sacagawea dollars and Presidential dollars. Quantities of the NGC Retro Holder are limited for each coin type and are available only while quantities last. There is no additional cost for NGC Collectors Society members to receive the holder. Check the NGC website for availability and submission instructions.

“Since its founding in 1987, NGC has invested millions of dollars and thousands of hours of research and development into insuring that our holders are the finest in the world to protect and showcase your collection,” said Steve Eichenbaum, CEO of NGC’s parent company, the Certified Collectibles Group® of companies. “NGC’s state-of-the-art label
and hologram have evolved over the 25 years we’ve been in business and are a few examples of how NGC is committed to protecting the consumer and the hobby.”

For more information visit the NGC website or contact NGC Customer Service at service@NGCcoin.com or 800-NGC-COIN (642-2646).

[PRESS RELEASE] An exciting new era in buying and selling rare coins and collectibles will begin on May 31, 2012, with the live beta test launch of Collectors Corner CoinSearch™ at the Long Beach Coin, Stamp & Collectibles Expo. The unprecedented new service from Certified Coin Exchange (CCE) uses state-of-the-art mobile technology to enable collectors to instantly locate specific coins they are looking for at a show.

For the first time, coin buyers will be able to use their smart phones or iPads to find the exact coins they’re seeking prior to and during the Long Beach Expo, May 31 – June 2. They’ll also be able to pinpoint the exact bourse floor locations of the dealers who have those specific coins in their inventory.

The item listings will be available through Collectors Corner CoinSearch, a free mobile application from Collectors Corner (www.CollectorsCorner.com), a division of CCE.

“Dealers can list coins they’ll have at their Long Beach tables that are in their Collectors Corner inventories. Collectors and other dealers then can use the new Collectors Corner CoinSearch mobile app to easily locate any coins they’re seeking and find the dealers and locations of their tables,” explained Cassi East, CCE President.

“Collectors will be able to know where their special coin is located even before they get on the bourse floor! Collectors Corner CoinSearch is a perfect blend of Collectors Corner, where dealers attending the Long Beach Expo list thousands of items for sale, and the actual Expo, where collectors go to find them. It takes all the guesswork and tedious searching out of the equation.”

Collectors Universe President David Hall described the May 31 – June 2 Long Beach Expo as “a coming out party” for the new technology.

“Long Beach has always been a great place to sell coins, and now it’s about to be even better. We have harnessed the listing power of CCE’s Collectors Corner with the power of today’s mobile technology to make it really easy for buyers and sellers to get together,” Hall said.

“Imagine walking into a coin show and punching ‘1907 $20 High Relief’ into your smart phone or iPad, and then seeing a list of the table numbers, locations and names of all the dealers carrying $20 High Reliefs at that coin show.”

The ability to post Collectors Corner listings in the Long Beach Expo CoinSearch data base will be available for all CCE member dealers at no additional charge as part of their CCE membership.

“CCE members can call us at (800) 733-6623, and we’ll walk you through the easy download mechanics,” explained East.

The Long Beach Coin, Stamp & Collectibles Expo will be held in the Long Beach, California Convention Center at 100 S. Pine Ave.

It will be open for dealer setup beginning two hours earlier than in the past, on Wednesday, May 30, 2012, from noon to 7 pm. Public hours will be Thursday and Friday, May 31 and June 1, from 10 am to 7 pm, and Saturday, June 2, from 10 am to 5 pm.

Public admission is $8 (good for all three days); $4 for members of any coin or stamp club; $4 for seniors 65 and older and for children ages 8 to 16. Free admission is available for PCGS and PSA Collectors Club members, PCGS, PSA and PSE Set Registrants, PCGS and PSA Authorized Dealers and for children ages 7 and younger.

A Schedule of Events is available online at www.LongBeachExpo.com.

To mark the Andrew Johnson $1 coin’s release, the bureau will hold a ceremonial launch and coin exchange on the same day, at the Andrew Johnson National Historic Site in Greeneville, Tennessee.

The coin was designed entirely by United States Mint Artistic Sculptor-Engraver Don Everhart. The obverse includes the inscriptions ANDREW JOHNSON, IN GOD WE TRUST, 17TH PRESIDENT and 1865-1869.

The coin’s reverse bears a rendition of the Statue of Liberty and the inscription UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. The year of minting or issuance, 2011, E PLURIBUS UNUM and the mint of origin are incused on the coin’s edge.

Presidential $1 Coins are produced for use in everyday cash transactions. The coins last for decades, are 100 percent recyclable and can save the country hundreds of millions of dollars each year.

The Presidential $1 Coins will be shipped to banks and other financial institutions in rolls, unmixed with other $1 coins. For each new design, banks may order and store the coins up to three weeks prior to the introduction so they will have supplies on hand on the release date. The coins will be available in unmixed rolls for two weeks after the introduction of each design. The special ordering process begins again when each new Presidential $1 Coin is released.

The ordering period for unmixed quantities of the Andrew Johnson Presidential $1 Coin began January 27. To order boxes of wrapped rolls ($1,000 minimum order) of the Andrew Johnson Presidential $1 Coin, depository institutions can use FedLine Web® Access Solution.

In addition, local Federal Reserve Bank offices can handle special requests for $2,000 bags of unmixed Andrew Johnson Presidential $1 Coins, orders for $2,000 bags of mixed $1 coins and orders for Andrew Johnson Presidential $1 Coins after the special order period ends on March 3 (while supplies last).

Presidential $1 Coins can also be collected. They are educational and fun with four new designs, each featuring an American President, issued each year. The Andrew Johnson Presidential $1 Coin will be featured in collectible products available for purchase through the United States Mint’s Web site at http://www.usmint.gov/catalog or by calling 1-800-USA-MINT (872-6468).

[Franklin Center, New York] The Franklin Mint unveiled a rare and unprecedented work of artistry–The Taj Mahal Gold Coin–at its new Manhattan showroom (8 West 40th Street, 14th Fl.).

Minted and designed by the Monnaie de Paris, only 29 of these coins will ever be produced. The Taj Mahal Gold Coin is the most valuable French piece ever released and is the world’s first coin to include 68 hand-set Cartier diamonds.

“For any collector or investor looking to buy gold, The Taj Mahal Gold Coin offers a unique opportunity to buy a piece of history,” said Walter J. Kole, chief numismatist for The Franklin Mint.

“Gold has appreciated in value at a historic rate over the past few years, and diamonds always seem to retain their value. This masterwork represents a truly once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for art, coin and other collectors, made possible by The Franklin Mint exclusively in the United States.”

The Taj Mahal Coin is valued at $160,000 and is being offered exclusively in the United States by The Franklin Mint.

“Coin collectors wait for items like The Taj Mahal Gold Coin to come on the market with great anticipation. A gold coin of this weight, inlaid with Cartier diamonds is a rarity that many collectors have never seen,” added Kole. “Given that only 29 of these coins will ever be produced, we anticipate a complete sell-out of the edition in a short period of time.”

This magnificent coin is housed inside a custom leather display handcrafted by the makers of the finest luggage in the world, Goyard.

Monnaie de Paris is one of the oldest institutions in France. Its origin can be traced back to the edict of currency by the Emperor Charles le Chauve on June 24 of the year 864. Its facility, located in the West of France since 1973, strikes the circulating coins for all of France, as well as other countries.

The Monnaie de Paris is a member of the prestigious Comité Colbert, an association with current membership totaling 75 luxury French companies.

The United States Mint said today it plans to make its annual core products available in January 2011. This will be the first time in at least a decade that a majority of its annual core products will be offered this early in the year. Previously, annual Mint products were made available at different times during the year and significantly later in the calendar year.

The products being made available in January will include the 2011 United States Mint Uncirculated Set; 2011 United States Mint Proof Set; and 2011 United States Mint Silver Proof Set.

“We’ve listened to our customers and their desire to have these annual sets earlier in the year,” said Ed Moy, Director of the United States Mint. “Making our annual core products available at one time, and early in the year, provides our customers the opportunity to purchase them for their collections and for gift-giving throughout the year. It’s also a demonstration of our commitment to them.”

The United States Mint also said that it will announce later this fall the schedule of all of its products that will be released in the first quarter of 2011.
