For the first time, coin buyers will be able to use their smart phones or iPads to find the exact coins they’re seeking prior to and during the Long Beach Expo, May 31 – June 2.  They’ll also be able to pinpoint the exact bourse floor locations of the dealers who have those specific coins in their inventory.

The item listings will be available through Collectors Corner CoinSearch, a free mobile application from Collectors Corner (www.CollectorsCorner.com), a division of CCE.

“Dealers can list coins they’ll have at their Long Beach tables that are in their Collectors Corner inventories. Collectors and other dealers then can use the new Collectors Corner CoinSearch mobile app to easily locate any coins they’re seeking and find the dealers and locations of their tables,” explained Cassi East, CCE President.

“Collectors will be able to know where their special coin is located even before they get on the bourse floor!  Collectors Corner CoinSearch is a perfect blend of Collectors Corner, where dealers attending the Long Beach Expo list thousands of items for sale, and the actual Expo, where collectors go to find them. It takes all the guesswork and tedious searching out of the equation.”

Collectors Universe President David Hall described the May 31 – June 2 Long Beach Expo as “a coming out party” for the new technology.

“Long Beach has always been a great place to sell coins, and now it’s about to be even better. We have harnessed the listing power of CCE’s Collectors Corner with the power of today’s mobile technology to make it really easy for buyers and sellers to get together,” Hall said.

“Imagine walking into a coin show and punching ‘1907 $20 High Relief’ into your smart phone or iPad, and then seeing a list of the table numbers, locations and names of all the dealers carrying $20 High Reliefs at that coin show.”

The ability to post Collectors Corner listings in the Long Beach Expo CoinSearch data base will be available for all CCE member dealers at no additional charge as part of their CCE membership.

“CCE members can call us at (800) 733-6623, and we’ll walk you through the easy download mechanics,” explained East.

The Long Beach Coin, Stamp & Collectibles Expo will be held in the Long Beach, California Convention Center at 100 S. Pine Ave.

It will be open for dealer setup beginning two hours earlier than in the past, on Wednesday, May 30, 2012, from noon to 7 pm.  Public hours will be Thursday and Friday, May 31 and June 1, from 10 am to 7 pm, and Saturday, June 2, from 10 am to 5 pm.

Public admission is $8 (good for all three days); $4 for members of any coin or stamp club; $4 for seniors 65 and older and for children ages 8 to 16.  Free admission is available for PCGS and PSA Collectors Club members, PCGS, PSA and PSE Set Registrants, PCGS and PSA Authorized Dealers and for children ages 7 and younger.

Become a Dealer for a Day at the World’s Fair of Money

Ever wondered what it’s like to be a dealer at a major coin show? Have a collection you’re looking to sell?

The Daily Tables section debuting at the ANA World’s Fair of Money in Chicago, Aug. 16-20, is an affordable way for collectors and Internet dealers to sell on the bourse along with the industry’s heavy hitters.

Each day during the World’s Fair of Money, a block of tables will be available for daily rental at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont. The Daily Tables section will be a major draw for one simple reason: It will feature brand-new material every single day.

“The influx of new materials will keep the bourse floor fresh and exciting for the duration of the World’s Fair of Money,” ANA Executive Director Larry Shepherd said. “We believe the daily tables will become a popular area at ANA shows.”

Online dealers will gain the exposure that comes with selling at a major show and have the opportunity to reach new clients. Collectors looking to sell their numismatic items will be able to reach a significant number of potential buyers.

 Prices are $400 for Aug. 16, $300 for Aug. 17, and $250 each day for the rest of the show.

The experts, Scott A. Travers and Maurice H. Rosen, will be the featured speakers at Coin Collector’s Survival® Conference 2010, a 90-minute seminar that will give attendees useful information on how to “survive and thrive during the decade of gold.”

The Survival Conference will start at 10:30 a.m. August 13 in Room 200 of the convention center. Admission is free, and everyone who attends will receive a copy of one of the bestselling books authored by Travers, as well as a newsletter published by Rosen. The free books and newsletters will be vintage copies of earlier editions.

Travers is a nationally known New York City coin dealer, author and consumer advocate who has written more than half a dozen award-winning books, including The Coin Collector’s Survival Manual®, a hobby bestseller that will have its seventh edition published by Random House in November. The New York Times has described him as “the Ralph Nader of numismatics” for his consumer activism.

Rosen is a prominent professional numismatist and coin market analyst from Plainview, New York, whose influential Rosen Numismatic Advisory is recognized perennially as the outstanding newsletter in the field of rare coins and precious metals. He forecasts in the soon-to-be-published edition of the Survival Manual that “by the end of 2020, the price of gold in U.S. dollars will be $5,000 to $10,000 per ounce.”

Travers and Rosen both foresaw the tremendous advance in the market value of gold well before it began. Travers was predicting $1,000-an-ounce gold in books and articles several years beforehand, when the price was less than half that amount and barely one-third its present level of about $1,200.

Also taking part in the symposium will be Jerry Jordan, award-winning news editor of The Examiner, a newspaper in Beaumont, Texas, who wrote a series of articles exposing apparent abuses by traveling gold buyers. Jordan’s four-part series revealed that in many cases, the itinerant buyers – operating out of hotel suites – apparently offered unwary sellers a small fraction of the true value for their gold coins and jewelry.

It’s in the daily news. It’s discussed on talk shows and around the water cooler. There’s no escaping it, no matter what your opinion may be.

It’s even crept into the hobby, the one place in which you thought you could find just a few minutes of refuge from the outside world.

A recent article states that all persons who are in business, including corporations, and have bought or sold $600 worth of coins or bullion will have to file a 1099 form.
