Stack’s Bowers Galleries presented its highly anticipated November 2024 Showcase Auction, in which incredibly fresh anchor collections saw intense bidding as many rarities set new price records. The offerings ranged from the earliest years of the colonial era to the most recent U.S. Mint issues, as well as United States currency and physical cryptocurrencies – something for every taste and budget.

Record prices were led by the newly discovered New England Threepence, unique in private hands, which realized $2,520,000, the finest PCGS-graded 1870-CC double eagle that sold for $1,440,000 and one of the finest known Baldwin “Horseman” $10s that brought $1,260,000.

The auction featured coins from the Darrel O. Neidigh, Jr., Robert D. Reed, Bernard Richards, and Ross Family collections, as well as the Recently Publicized “Chapman Set” of Gold Dollars, and many other impressive consignments. Most of these were assembled decades or even generations ago, and were making their first appearance in the modern numismatic market to the delight of collectors and dealers worldwide.
“The numismatic market has a lot to be thankful for this season,” said Brian Kendrella, president of Stack’s Bowers Galleries. “Our final major auction event of 2024 was a resounding success. The large number of new high prices set was incredible. Collectors are very active in all categories, and are feeling confident in the collectibles market. We had three coins sell for well into seven figures, while a few dozen realized $100,000 or more. Even coins in the lower price ranges are being avidly sought by serious collectors and novices alike.”
Among items in the main catalog of U.S. coins and numismatic Americana, strong prices were plentiful and represented a wide range of numismatic items including:
